10-Minute Systems That Save My Sanity as a Solo Parent

Hello Friends! Today, I'm sharing 10-minute systems that will save your sanity. If you’re a solo parent, you know the truth: we don’t get “free time.” We get micro‑moments — the 10 minutes before school pickup, the 7 minutes while pasta boils, the 3 minutes before someone yells “MOM!”

Over time, I’ve learned that the secret to staying afloat isn’t having more time, it’s having tiny systems that keep life from spiraling.

These are the 10‑minute routines that save my sanity — and might save yours too.

1. The 10-Minute Reset

Every night, I set a timer for 10 minutes and reset the house just enough to make tomorrow easier.

My reset includes:

  • Dishes into the dishwasher

  • Small items into baskets (pens, lip balms, hand sanitizers, hair ties)

  • Putting things away in the Drop Zone

  • Counters wiped

  • Trash and recycling out

  • Bathroom wipe down

The Drop Zone

A basket by the door for:

  • Backpacks

  • Shoes

  • Keys

  • Mail

  • Random kid treasures

The Key: Keep it manageable for yourself. It’s not aesthetic. It’s survival.

Need help with your 10-minute reset? Ive created a printable checklist that you can download for free. Click below for your free Daily Reset checklist. Print it out, put it into a page protector, and use a dry erase marker to check off the boxes.

2. The 10-Minute Meal Prep

I used to do full meal preps on Sundays, but I got so burnt out that I started to dread meal prepping. Now, I do a 10-minute micro prep each night:

  • Cook a batch of rice

  • Portion out snacks

  • Chop and portion veggies

  • Pre-cook protein

  • Pack up dry and packaged foods into lunchboxes

  • Place a coffee pod in the Keurig for the morning

These tiny steps make weeknights feel 50% easier.

3. The Brain Dump List

I love lists. And I'm oldschool, so I love writing things down. Every evening, I dump everything swirling in my brain onto paper:

  • Appointments

  • School reminders

  • Errands

  • Work tasks

  • Emotional clutter

Then I pick the top three to work on in 10 minutes. Everything else can wait.

4. The Toy Sweep

When my kids were young, I would grab a laundry basket and sweep in games, slime, play doh, stuffed animals, and all their toys left on the floor. Set a timer. Sweep and sort what you can in 10 minutes.

5. The Self-Care Micro-Moment

Yes, we get 10 minutes too! Solo parents don’t get spa days. We get:

  • A hot drink

  • A quiet shower

  • A 10-minute stretch

  • A favorite candle

  • A journal prompt

  • A moment to breathe

These tiny pauses matter more than you think. I like to sit outside on the patio with a cup of tea. It's enough to reset.

What I Hope You Take With You

You don’t need a perfect system — you need a doable one. These 10-minute habits won’t change your life overnight, but they will make your days smoother, lighter, and more manageable. And honestly - That’s the real magic.

Sending you love!
